ArewaCotton, in its efforts to meet with the ever growing demand for Nigerian Cotton has signed an MOU with the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) for the Development of Extensive Cotton Production, Processing and Marketing in the North Central and Southwest Regions of Nigeria. The MOU is in line with the Transformation Agenda of the Federal Government and FMARD’s Agricultural Transformation Programme. It is aimed at adding value to the Cotton Value Chain in the Regions.
ArewaCotton is recognized as one of the Key players in the Nigerian Cotton sector and has identified with major stake holders in the Regions where it has operational presence, thereby able to boost cotton production through the introduction of global best practices in Cotton Farming, Harvesting, Post-Harvest Storage, Transportation, Processing, Post-Processing Storage and Trading.
With a vision of being the ‘First Choice Providers of Nigerian Cotton Products Globally’ and the goal of ‘Building Global Confidence In Nigerian Cotton’, ArewaCotton is poised to take the centre stage in Nigerian Cotton production and processing through the use of improved seeds specific to each region as well as agricultural best practices to allow for a yield of not less than 90,000 Metric tons of Seed Cotton over a three (3) year period.
The MOU as signed gives the responsibility of providing farming inputs (Seeds, Fertilizers, Agro Chemicals, Extension Services, mechanized services etc) to ArewaCotton for all cotton farmers in the Regions.
ArewaCotton as “Partners” with FMARD for the Regions under the MOU, will be supported by FMARD through a direct Public Private Partnership (PPP) arrangement to establish a Seeds Testing Laboratory, a Seeds Production Facility and to set up the first commercially available cotton fiber testing Laboratory using High Volume Instrument (HVI) machine(s).
The MOU also creates for ArewaCotton a direct relationship with all the twelve (12) State Governments of the Regions. ArewaCotton will use this relationship to request for sizable parcels of land that it will use for the triple purpose of Seed multiplication, large scale mechanized cotton farming and a cotton ginnery.
The signing of the MOU potentially positions ArewaCotton to be the largest Nigerian Cotton Farmer, Processor and Trader.
