ArewaCotton has continued in its giant strides towards the growth of Nigerian cotton and its acceptability in the global market. Our MOU with the Federal Government of Nigeria through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) is geared towards developing the cotton value chain as “PARTNERS” in the entire North Central and South-West regions of Nigeria and it encourages State Governments in both regions to partner with ArewaCotton towards achieving the partnership objectives of the MOU.
To this end, an MOU has been signed between the Kogi State government, National Cotton Association of Nigeria (NACOTAN) Kogi State chapter and ArewaCotton, for the establishment of a modern cotton ginnery and support for the development of the cotton value chain in the State.
Kogi State Government has agreed to establish a collaborative platform through this signed MOU with ArewaCotton to support cotton production in the state, thereby officially launching Kogi Ginnery Ltd (KGL), with ArewaCotton holding controlling equity.
The company has the following objectives;
- To empower cotton farmers in the state
- To create multiple investment opportunities
- To directly and indirectly create upwards of 300 jobs
- To develop entrepreneurs in the form of agents and merchants
This laudable and empowering MOU, the first of its kind to be signed in support of the MOU we have with the Federal Government of Nigeria, was signed on the 7th of November 2013 in a ceremony organized by Kogi State Government, with His Excellency Capt. Idris Icalla Wada in attendance along with other top government functionaries.
